architecture!

Here is some of the individual work I've done in the past couple of weeks.

These first two are sections of a portion of River North in San Antonio; the first c. 1930, the other present day 2010. I realize these came out tiny on this page, but the main idea = the area used to be lively, now it's desolate. The left building is a Turner's club, still functioning today but struggling. The right building was a book-binding factory; now the same structure serves as parking for AT&T employees. And there's more trees way back when, especially near the (then undeveloped) Riverwalk.

These next two drawings are sections exploring "space" in terms of usage over time and public vs. private.
The first drawing takes 4 times of day (7 AM, 12 noon, 5 PM, 10PM) and shows who's occupying three levels of an apartment grid at these certain times. Each floor is the realm of a separate person's life.
The second drawing simply depicts the spatial relationship between public and private in a mixed-use building (commercial space on the first floor, residential above).
If you click on the pictures they should get bigger and you'll be able to see the detail.

This last drawing was part of a group presentation. Our group of 4 people was the "LIVE" group, in which we investigated how people might live in River North when the area gets redeveloped. These are 3 housing types which match the "districts" we made up: Urban, Family, and Arts. You probably can't see much but you get the idea...
